How to Create a Weight Loss Plan of Action

September 13th, 2008 by Go Weblog

The New Year is upon us. Resolutions have been made and resolutions have already been broken. This is the time of year that fitness centers see loads of new members scurry in. These new members have weight loss dreams, but little knowledge of how to safely achieve their goal. Many who started this New Year with fat loss dreams will end up frustrated. Many will quit altogether within one month.

Permanent weight loss is absolutely possible with a little planning. Frustration and failure are easy to avoid when weight loss seekers have a doable and effective plan of action. The secret to fat loss lies in the planning and execution of the goal.

A weight loss plan of action should consist of a chain of events that eventually leads to a healthy and toned body. It is a series of milestones designed to push the body beyond its daily tasks. The plan would open with a mission statement and close with the specific details. The plan of action would include a starting and ending date. The goals would be finite and measurable. A weight loss plan of action would answer the who, what, when, where and why.

Many people make a resolution to lose weight. They may go as far as join a gym. 90% stop there. The other 10% have planned adequately and will succeed with their goals. Their specific fat loss plan of action may have looked something like this:

“I want to drop 10 pounds of body fat. I will begin this program today and it will end exactly two months from now. If I feel like giving up I will seek the guidance of a personal trainer and/or nutritionist. I will also remember why I want to drop 10 pounds of body fat. My reasons are that I want to feel great. I want to feel secure, healthy, happy and beautiful.

I plan to drop 10 pounds of body fat within two months by starting a cardio and strength training routine 6 days per week. My specific workout routine will be to do a full body strength training routine on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. I will do 15-45 minutes of cardio each day except Sunday. I will end each workout session by stretching.

I also plan to eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Each meal will consist of a lean protein and a complex carbohydrate. I will drink 8 glasses of water throughout the day. Sugar will be limited. Caffeine will be eliminated, but I will allow my morning cup of coffee.

I realize this task is hard, but that it is absolutely possible. I will succeed. I have prepared and am totally invested in my health. I will read this plan of action two times per day and stick to it.”

The above fat loss plan of action is a road map to success. It describes the person’s goal, it details how the person will achieve their goal and it explains what the person will do when she faces roadblocks.

The new year is a wonderful time to set intentions. Weight loss is the direct result of planning and execution. Ensuring success is simple when a plan of action is created. It gives purpose and definition. It can literally be the difference between realizing a fat loss dream or reliving the weight gain nightmare so many people experience each year.

The Only Diet That Works

September 7th, 2008 by Go Weblog

We know that diets don’t work, although there is one diet that does.

It doesn’t have anything to do with what you eat, rather what you see and hear.

What is it?

The “media diet”.

You avoid the media - including radio, television and newspapers.

Have you noticed when you watch, read or listen to the news, it’s almost all negative? With a constant input of negativity, it’s more difficult to have a positive outlook, to reach your health and life goals, and enjoy your life. Nothing supresses your immune system more than bad news and negativity.

And when you’re watching television programs, you’re watching others enjoying their lives (or ruining them) while they make a great living at it! Usually, these actors are attractive, wealthy and healthy looking.

Why spend your life listening to all the negative things going on in the world and watching others enjoy their lives? Make your own life the best ever!

You might ask, how will I find out what’s happening in the world without getting the news? Well, you’d be surprised how little it all means to your personally. Let me ask you to try this. Don’t watch or read the news for 1 week. Then don’t watch television for a week. Then try it for a month and see how your life has changed. What do you have to lose other than gaining more time?

Just imagine what you could do with an extra 10-15 hours a week:

-You can start an exercise and activity program to lose weight and increase your health.
-You can read on a topic of your interest.
-You can spend more time with your family.
-You can learn a new skill
-You can become more valuable to your employer and increase your income

-You can start or get back to a hobby.
-You can start a new business.

-You can learn how to overcome a health challenge
-You can learn how to prepare healthy meals
-You can become an expert at something you enjoy.
-You can volunteer and help others.

A recent study of the habits of members of the National Weight Control Registry a group of about 5,000 people who have lost an average of 73 pounds and kept off at least 30 of them for more than six years found that most watch fewer than 10 hours of TV a week.

Members of the Weight Control Registry that increased TV viewing habits were more likely to gain weight.

I’ve been on the media diet for just under a year now and it’s made a significant impact on my life. Sure, I watch a tv program or movie a few times a month just for fun. With the extra time (some studies report that American families watch television over 52 hours a week) I’ve been able to reach more goals, make new and enhance existing relationships, help others more often and better my health.

You’re Awesome and YOU can do it!

Lose Weight With Me For 2006

August 20th, 2008 by Go Weblog

“Fat Pig” , “Beached Whale!” I’m tired of it all. I’m too much of a coward to kill myself so I guess I must change and the first way I need to change is to say goodbye to my best friend of 40 years: Junk food. Yes, at 350 pounds I have reached my Epiphany! I need; no I WANT to lose weight! Before it kills me. I can just see my funeral with all of my best friends drawing straws to see who will NOT be my poll bearers! “Not me, got a bad back!” etc. It’s time. Now if anyone wants to join me(and I can’t believe anyone would WANT to join me) I will be writing a weekly article here to walk(ugh) through my triumphs and tragedies with you.

We WILL lose weight! I am tired of being a “Fat person”. The first assignment, since we don’t officially begin until next Monday(1/1/06) Is to write down all of the foods that are good for you that you like. Next you will write down all of the snack foods that have stopped you from losing weight before. Then you will write down all of the exercizes that you can still do, and all of the activities that you would like to do if you were able to. That should provide motivation enough for us to begin our journey together. Someone once wrote that no one knows more about dieting and exercize than fat people!

I agree with that so I won’t be instructing anyone about anything except what you probably already have read and heard. Besides I am no doctor(I don’t even play one on TV). I will just be here to share with all of you the struggle to survive without feeling like it is not worth it. You see it is about replacing what you have (food and some lack of self) with confidence and food. (Sounds weird but you notice you still have food) In my Bio I noted that God is one of my interests. Well from time to time i may use a reference from the Bible because I really can’t live without referencing His Word.

The devil gave Eve a choice a long time ago. He promised her a choice between good and evil. And to know the difference. But what it doesn’t say is that they already KNEW GOOD! They KNEW GOD! I am telling you that you know the difference, you know what to do, and now it is time to choose good. Choose to live and choose life. You don’t have to “give up’ or ‘deprive yourself” of anything that is good. The devil made some things “LOOK GOOD” I’m saying you know what to do and it is time. Now is the time to change your life for the better. You need to do it, and if you are reading this, you need to do it now.

Alan (Bud) Speaker is a complex, compassionate caring man who, at almost 50 years old (3/13/56) is by most people’s description either “heavy, fat, obese jocular, and in this holiday season, Santaesque.” He has been interested in reading and writing and words all of his life but has only started seriously writing since the turn of the century. (sounds longer than 5 years). His interests are God, self improvement, family, sports and creative writing, although not always in that order. Bud has written poetry, short stories, television dramas and short plays although only the poems have been published. Bud’s goal for this year is to lose weight and write about it. Also he wants to finish writing the one book he was meant to write about: Streetball in his hometown of Philadelphia.
